Position: Social Worker Childrens
Location: Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth, PO1 2AL
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 2+ Months
Working Hours: 37 hours per week

Job Responsibilities
Undertake statutory social work duties within Children’s Services, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
Carry out assessments, including child and family assessments, in line with relevant legislation, policies, and safeguarding procedures.
Manage a caseload of children and families, ensuring timely and effective intervention and support planning.
Develop and implement care plans, safeguarding plans, and support interventions based on assessed needs and risks.
Conduct home visits and in-person meetings with children, families, and professionals as required.
Work closely with partner agencies including schools, health services, police, and voluntary organisations to safeguard and promote welfare.
Participate in child protection conferences, strategy discussions, and multi-agency meetings.
Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality case records in line with statutory requirements and council policies.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the Children Act and safeguarding guidance.
Prepare clear and concise written reports for court proceedings and other formal processes where required.
Work within allocated timescales and ensure effective case progression.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications & Registration
Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work qualification (e.g., Degree in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent).
Registered with Social Work England.
Minimum of 3 years post-qualifying experience in children’s social work.
Experience
Experience working within statutory Children’s Services.
Experience managing a complex caseload involving safeguarding and child protection.
Experience completing assessments, care planning, and risk analysis.
Experience working in multi-agency environments.
Experience attending court proceedings, child protection conferences, and legal planning meetings.
Knowledge
Strong understanding of relevant legislation including the Children Act and safeguarding frameworks.
Knowledge of child development, attachment, and risk assessment.
Awareness of thresholds for intervention and safeguarding procedures.
Skills & Abilities
Strong assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Excellent written communication skills for report writing and case recording.
Ability to manage workload effectively and work under pressure.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with vulnerable children and families.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-agency team.
Good IT skills for case management systems and documentation.
