Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Test Automation Developer to join our team and contribute to the development and maintenance of automated testing frameworks and tools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, test automation, and a passion for ensuring software quality through automated testing practices. You will work closely with our development team to design, implement, and execute automated tests for our software products.

Job type: Permanent, full-time

Salary: circa £40,000

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks to support functional, regression, and performance testing of software applications
  • Collaborate with developers and quality assurance engineers to understand software requirements and design effective test strategies and scenarios
  • Identify and prioritise test cases for automation based on risk analysis, business impact, and test coverage goals
  • Integrate automated tests into continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for regular and reliable testing of software builds
  • Execute automated tests, analyse test results, and report defects to development teams in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain test data and test environments necessary for automated testing activities
  • Stay updated with industry trends, tools, and best practices in test automation and contribute to the adoption of new technologies and methodologies
  • Participate in code reviews, team meetings, and agile ceremonies to ensure quality and alignment with project goals

Qualifications (desirable)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field

Experience (required)

  • Strong programming skills in TypeScript, and / or other transferable programming languages such Javascript, C# and Rust.
  • Experience in test automation frameworks such as Selenium WebDriver, TestNG, JUnit, or similar
  • Proficiency with version control systems such as Git for code management and collaboration
  • Understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices
  • Experience with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or similar
  • Knowledge of API testing frameworks and tools such as REST Assured, Postman, or SoapUI is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Additional Experience (desirable)

  • Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, or LoadRunner
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Relevant certifications in software testing, test automation, or programming (ISTQB, Selenium Certification, etc.)
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes

Our office

Our office is located in The Sharp Project, Manchester which you have daily access to. There are great transport links and free onsite parking (for cars & bikes).

The Sharp Project is home to over 60 digital entrepreneurs and production companies specialising in digital content production, digital media and TV and film production.

Our Engineering department works in fortnightly sprints with the designated office days as bi-weekly Tuesdays. There is also an occasional additional requirement to attend the office for workshops, ad-hoc team meetings, full company meetings and company/team events.

Applicants should live within a reasonable commuting distance to be able to come to the office as required.

Hours and days of work

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, typically 9am to 5.30pm with a 1-hour lunch break.
