The Opportunity

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a passionate and experienced individual to join us as the Head of Health and Safety - Aggregates and Construction Demolition Materials (CDM).

In this strategic leadership role you’ll be reporting directly to the Health, Safety and Performance Director, and will drive health and safety excellence across our aggregates sector, ensuring the highest standards are achieved and maintained consistently.

This is a role with national coverage and as such you will support a geographically spread business supporting locations across the UK, an ability to travel is a prerequisite.

Key Responsibilities:

● A senior leadership role responsible under the direction of the Health,Safety & Performance Director for developing and leading strategic health and safety initiatives across all Aggregates and CDM operations.

● A trusted leader, partner, advisor and support to the relevant ExCo member(s) in the delivery of the company’s H & S agenda and implementation of the longer-term H & S strategy

● Development and delivery of the overall divisional strategy of continuous improvement for Health & Safety.

● Leading and managing a team of Senior Health and Safety Business Partners and other Health and Safety support professionals

● Work collaboratively with the Functional Leadership Teams and Senior Business Stakeholders to implement and lead coordination of the businesses Health and Safety strategies.

● Manage the strategic H&S relationships with key external stakeholders, including major customers, potential new clients, regulators and other interested third parties.

● Support with the development of ‘world class’ company standards, procedures and guidance through consultation with the workforce and operational management.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Significant experience in health and safety management within the aggregates sector or similar industries.

  • Extensive knowledge of health, safety legislation, especially Quarry Regulations 1999 and associated best practices.

  • A proven track record of successfully managing, implementing and embedding health and safety strategies across geographically diverse teams.

  • Chartered status to the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) or willing to work towards achieving formal chartered status.

  • NEBOSH or similar industry recognised health and safety qualification required.

  • Leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels within the organisation.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • A commitment to promoting a culture of inclusivity and safety-first mentality within the workplace.

  • A safety innovator with demonstrated track record of success in engaging behavioural safety and utilising safety digitalisation to enhance progressive and Industry leading safety strategies
